Mode of action of Alsigra
Alsigra or Sildenafil Citrate is used in the treatment of Erectile
Dysfunction (impotence). It inhibits Phosphodiesterase 5 enzyme. An
erection occurs via a complex chain of happenings, involving signals
from the central nervous system and the discharge of chemical
messengers within the muscles of the penis. Normal physiological
process of erection involves the parasympathetic nervous system of
our body. This system releases Nitric Oxide (NO) in the Corpus

receptors present in the surface of the enzyme Glutanylate cyclase.
This enzyme helps to release some chemical messengers.

layer of muscle found in the walls of the blood vessel. This helps
more and more blood to reach the penis, which eventually results in
the penis becoming stiff and erect.
A substance in the body named Phosphodiesterase 5 normally degrades
cGMP. Sildenafil works by negating the action of the enzyme
Phosphodiesterase 5, thus causing stoppage of the breakdown of cGMP.
That means the blood vessels inside penis remain dilated for longer,
increasing blood flow to the penis and maintaining an erection than
normally the person does.
